We offer in house training for ourselves and others!
Training
Our compulsory induction course for all carers covers: the principles of care and the role of the care worker; maintaining safety at work; how to communicate effectively; how to recognize and respond to abuse and neglect.
Before starting work, all of our carers must complete courses: moving and handling; health and safety; First Aid; food and hygiene. All courses are taught by a certified trainer.
In addition, the following courses must be completed within the first six weeks of employment: safe handling of medicines; infection control and protection of vulnerable adults (POVA).
Our carers continuously receive relevant training, depending on the needs of their clients. These might cover conditions/illnesses including dementia, MS, Parkinson’s disease, brain and spinal injury awareness, learning disabilities, epilepsy and how to control MRSA. It is compulsory for carers to attend an annual refresher course to ensure they keep up to date with current legislation and best practice in the field of care.
On completion of the six-week induction period, carers are offered the opportunity to complete an NVQ level 2 in Care.
We have our own full-time in-house trainer, who is accredited by the Skills for Care Council. In addition, we work closely with organizations such as the Alzheimer’s, MS and Stroke societies to ensure our course material is appropriate. We regularly invite guest speakers to come in to give talks on issues relating to conditions affecting our clients.
